PAKISTAN READY TO PROVIDE MILITARY SUPPORT TO AZERBAIJAN

Pakistan will support Azerbaijan in a peaceful settlement to the Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijan, like Pakistan, has suffered from aggression, but experience shows that in resolving conflicts, it is necessary to give preference to a peaceful settlement. Pakistan does not recognize Armenia as a country, and will continue this policy until the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, said the parliamentary members of the Pakistani delegation during the press conference on Wednesday at the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Selim Seyfulla Khan, reminded last month the Senate of Pakistan passed a resolution recognizing the Khojali genocide. This resolution, said Selim Seyfulla Khan, was signed by all parties, members of the Senate. The document demanded to bring to justice all those who are guilty for the Khojali genocide.

Selim Seyfulla Khan said that the purpose of the visit of Pakistani parliamentarians in Azerbaijan is to expand bilateral ties. Political relations between the two countries are at the highest level, and examples are the mutual visits by the heads of both states.

However, economic cooperation is not as strong, and Azerbaijan and Pakistan need to expand cultural relations in education, media and trade.

Responding to the question from Turan on the possibility of military cooperation, the vice-speaker of Pakistani Senate Mir Jan Jamali, noted great potential in this sphere, “We manufacture tanks, aircraft, ships and other weapons. We are interested in Azerbaijan’s investment in this area,” said Jamali.

Pakistan has good relations with Turkey and both these countries are ready to render assistance to Azerbaijan. Pakistan will provide assistance to Azerbaijan in the UN, OIC and other international organizations, he said
